Welcome to Digital Treasures

Would you like to browse manuscripts, photographs, newspapers, and texts from throughout human history? Do you need research access to rare, fragile, or unique materials in museums half-way across the world? Thanks to the efforts of many universities, libraries and museums, a wealth of research materials are now available in digital form.

The goal of this tutorial is to introduce you to the many resources available in online digital libraries, and the variety of ways to use them.

This tutorial is organized into three main sections. Since you will be introduced to several new concepts and terms, we recommend you start with the introduction and proceed in order. We will generally focus on the humanities and social science communities, but include a few resources related to other subject areas in the more resources section. You may also want to check the prerequisites page to make sure you have everything you need to get started.
