Program Assessment Manager and Webmaster, College of Pharmacy, UT Health Sciences CenterHealth information is published in the biomedical literature at an extremely rapid pace. It is imperative that healthcare professionals are aware of and have access to the literature to aid in patient care and policy decision-making. Secondary databases, such as Medline, are tools that index and abstract original biomedical literature. Five main secondary databases are available through the University of Tennessee. The purpose of these databases is to enable participants to quickly and efficiently find medical literature on subjects of interest. Presently there is an absence of training resources for searching in secondary databases in one concise module. The goal of this module is to equip UT faculty, staff, and students with the skills necessary to identify and retrieve published medical information using secondary databases. This module will train participants to identify what is the most appropriate secondary database to search in, formulate an effective search strategy, and retrieve pertinent literature in a time-efficient manner. It may be of particular interest to personnel involved in Public Health and Agricultural Extension Services and to healthcare preceptors and faculty throughout the state. Interactive lessons will be used to promote active learning.
