Developing Collaborative Learning Instruction Using Blackboard

launch module

Raj Kumar Rai

Graduate Student, Department of Instructional Technology and Educational Studies

This module will help UT faculty members, instructors, and GTAs design online collaborative learning instruction using Blackboard, an online instructional tool. Online collaborative learning is an effective instructional approach with the appropriate curriculum structure. It enhances student-centered learning. UT has adopted Blackboard as a web-based learning tool. It has many sophisticated features that facilitate: distribution of course information and learning resources; communication between teachers and students and among students; file sharing; and online assessment and feedback. The communication feature is a powerful tool for developing collaborative learning instruction. With this module the target audience will: (1) review the different communication tools in Blackboard application, (2) learn about collaborative learning, (3) learn strategies for online collaborative learning, and (4) know issues relevant to collaborative learning.
