Effectively Using Your Palm Personal Digital Assistant: Intermediate Level

launch module (click on the link for "Intermediate Level Instruction")

Roland N. Dickerson

Professor, College of Pharmacy

This module represents a continuation from the basic introduction to using the PDA. The learner will be expected to have the skills necessary to utilize the Palm operating system tools, install software, and navigate throughout their PDA prior to initiation of this module. This module will focus on advanced concepts and commercial programs that accomplish various tasks beyond the Palm operating system. In this module, the learner will learn to use program extensions/hacks, introduced to various launcher-type programs, and understand various backup options. The learner will also be able to evaluate unused ROM space and determine if they wish to utilize flash memory managers or virtual memory managers to increase free RAM space. Web clipping applications and security options will also be reviewed. The learner will also be introduced to various hardware and software options to use the PDA for giving PowerPoint presentations, collecting data for research, or improving upon Palm's operating system tools with commercially-available applications. The successful completion of this module by application of the principles would likely prepare the learner to be considered to be entering the level of a power user by comparison to many other PDA users. It is at this level whereby the user can actualize the true power of their PDA to help improve their productivity in the workplace.
