A Perfect Page from the Book of Kells

The Book of Kells is a document that was published in the mid-8th Century and has been preserved over the centuries. Currently it is kept at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

This book is probably the most impressive example of early Celtic Christian manuscript illumination. Manuscripts of books of the Bible were embellished, or "illuminated," with decorative borders and lettering. The artists used complicated geometric and artistic designs to decorate the text. The great masterpiece of this period, the Book of Kells, is thought to be unsurpassed in its perfections. Without a doubt it is one of history's best collections of "Perfect Pages."
