Using Metaphors for Online Instruction

launch module

Alison McNabb Lockett

Instructional Media Specialist

The online learning module "Using Metaphors in Online Instruction," will explore the components of well-designed user interfaces for online learning. The purpose of this module is to explore the use of metaphors when designing for online instruction. Metaphors provide a familiar reference for users in a sometimes unfamiliar learning environment. Metaphors typically do not need any explanation because they are associated with everyday ideas, objects, or scenarios. The module will provide clear and concise examples of interfaces that exemplify good use of metaphors. "Using Metaphors in Online Instruction" will serve as a valuable resource for faculty new to the online instructional design process and experienced faculty wishing to explore new methods for improving the effectiveness of existing online instruction.
