Publication and Communication: Designing for Print and Online
launch moduleBetsy DeGeorge
Publications ManagerThe face of communication has changed dramatically in the past five years. That enterprise called publication, once thought of as the domain of printers, typesetters, and press operators, is now exponentially broader, infinitely faster, and absolutely individualized. Yet, it is still fraught with essentially all of the hazards professional pressmen have battled for centuries. This publications course is designed for the student and educator concerned with the how-tos of publishing in today’s world. It sets forth a path through the hazards of incompatibility, inadequate resolution, rasterization, compression, and font loss to find the answer to the question haunting the individual trying to publish a document. “How come it looks like that?” Upon completion of this course, a student or faculty member should have a moderately high level of understanding of the modern publishing environment and the tools required to create documents both on paper and online.
