More and more, faculty and students at the University of Tennessee expect that appropriate instructional technology will be available to support their academic efforts. The graduate curriculum of the College of Nursing at the UT Health Science Center is primarily delivered via the Web utilizing Blackboard's CourseInfo, the Microsoft Office suite of software, and Adobe Acrobat documents. This delivery modality demands a skill set that has not previously been required of faculty, staff, and students. Because of increasingly limited resources of time, funding, and personnel, individualized, one-on-one computer training is a luxury. In response to student feedback indicating a need for better technological skills, the College developed an online, self-paced technology orientation that incoming students are required to complete. This module provides an introduction to a basic technology skill set, and has been refined and expanded based on evaluations of the orientation. It also provides resources for further assistance as needed and can be used to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff across the entire University of Tennessee system. Faculty can utilize the project to assess their students' technology skill levels as well as to improve their own.
